Previous post is back up! Sorry, accidentally saved it privately when I edited it.
I’m thinking about setting up a website to collect my writings over the years; One in Four, BBC, interviews and etc I’ve done. Partly for me to keep stuff in one place because I’m terrible at doing so, partly for interesting reading on mental health et al and partly to say, “Look, I write stuff, would you like me to write stuff for you?” Will of course have to check first that I have the right to republish- not sure with the BBC but can certainly link, I guess.
But my web design skillz are stuck somewhere in the early 2000s and I’m not sure how to go about any of this. Would any of you kind souls out there fancy helping me? I could do with it and would give you credit and stuff. Am not asking anyone to set up a site for me, just guide me a little. Though if anyone has free hosting and/or domains I’d love them, as I am skint.
Anyway, if you can or would like to help me, please e-mail me (you can find out how on the contact page). Thank you muchly.

Hi Seaneen, i have a site of my own and i didint pay anything for it, its through something called Freewebs. You can build your own site really easily, with easy to use tools. You can also have your own name to the site but it will have freewebs before your actual name ie http.freewebs.seaneenmolloy.com or if you prefer they offer really low costs for upgrading the site and domain name so you dont have the freewebs bit before your name. In order for the site to be free though the only downside is that there will be advertisments from different companies usually on your front page but again you can upgrade and this will be removed. I think in total its about £40 a year for your own domain and advert free site. Good luck!
Dark Entries and Co. have set up Internet shop somewhere in the middle of your country. I’ll email you the particulars in the morning, I’m kind of blind right now.
Hi,
A friend put me on to your request.
I have designed sites for many years and I seem to do them for barter and exchange. It suits me that way.
I would recommend that you look at this hoster. I have good experience of using them. And the first year is free. But you will need to buy a domain.
http://www.one.com/en_US/
Of course when it comes to creating a new site, you should not even be looking or thinking about such things.
Who is your audience?
What is your aim?
How big is going to be?
Do you need a search?
etc. etc.
Happy to advise further if you so wish.
Nick
As with freewebs, I think you can do the same with google – with the annoyance of a slighlty cluncky domain name.
Blogger.com has worked well for me its very easy to set up theres no limit to what or how many blog sites you can create . Google blogger apps. Are by far the easiest to manage and set up its your blog and it can be a profitable experience associated with the addsence program google shares add revenue with you on your own account the add placements are all of your own desires but the greatest part of it is that it is so easy to set up and they are content related adds instantly associated to each and every topic. With just a click its great . you can add pictures, html, adsence, comments, polls etc. plus much much more . the best part there is a wonderful help section with video tutorials associated with every need an concern possible to help guide even the most inexperienced user though the most difficult situations. I personally have 30 + blogs running on variable subjects styles etc. Its all on one account theres great tracking stats under account management . by far the most user friendly site I have ever used . The best part it is all free to set up . Absolutely no cost to the blogger . CHEERS to you Seaneen
P.S. Looking forward to you alternative creative writings I have enjoyed your work and find associating w/t your condition and posting quite refreshing with your personal style of writing and relating to the insanity of bipolar depression relating personally I have been Bipolar for years and in your writing I have found a great refreshing change from the ordinary blah blah blah routine found in most all literature and defining post on the subject . Anyone interested in my writings on the subject please feel free to check out my blogs . just click on my posting name to get a pop up of my complete listing and profile page .
Have a great day Seaneen .
CHEERS once again . Dirtdog
I’d love to help you but I’d rather pull out my own pubic hair with a pair of pliers than write a single line of HTML or CSS, check out my blog, made a fresh start
your blog inspired my writing style, but my old posts made me cringe when sober
alright I’ll do it, but only if we can meet up at your place, I’ll bring the macbook and dreamweaver. Deal or no deal?
I could probably help too. In the middle of depressive episode so may not be at my most astute when it comes to webby stuff, but I’ve designed a lot of sites in the past and still know what I’m doing.
I’d probably use wordpress as a base for your site as you’re already familiar with it. You could use wordpress.com hosting as you do already and pay for the CSS upgrade if you just wanted to change things about a bit.
Alternatively you could host your own wordpress.org blog, which I think is preferable. That way you could really adjust the site to be exactly as you want it, but you’d still have the same wordpress interface that you’re already used to. That way it would be really easy to update.
Relic Host are cheap and I’ve used them before. They seem pretty good. http://www.relichost.net. Apis Networks are more expensive but fantastic. I use Apis for most of my sites. http://apisnetworks.com. Either would be fine really.
As for domains you could get them through hosting or use ukreg.com who are pretty good and they were doing free .co.uks with each .com address, which is pretty handy.
